Instant Turf Laying Services in Dublin

Tired of a muddy, patchy or weed-filled garden? With instant roll-on turf, you can go from bare soil to a green, ready-to-enjoy lawn in as little as a day. No waiting weeks for seed to germinate, no birds eating your hard work, and no bare patches while you hope for the best.

We supply and lay instant turf for homes across Dublin. We handle the ground preparation, the delivery and the laying, so you end up with a flat, tidy lawn that looks good from day one.

What Is Instant Turf?

Instant turf (also called roll-on turf, rolled lawn or sod) is real grass, grown on a turf farm and cut into strips with a thin layer of soil still attached. We lay the strips like carpet tiles over prepared ground, and the grass knits into the soil below over the next couple of weeks.

It’s the fastest way to get a proper lawn, and it’s a lot more forgiving than seed, especially with Irish weather.

Why Choose Instant Turf Over Grass Seed?

  • Instant result: your garden looks finished the same day.
  • Fewer weeds: a dense, established lawn leaves less room for weeds to take hold.
  • Better in wet weather: turf holds the soil together, so heavy rain is less likely to wash seed away or leave bare patches.
  • Quicker to use: most lawns are ready for light foot traffic within a couple of weeks.
  • Great for slopes and problem areas: turf stays put where seed can slide.

How We Lay Your New Lawn

A good lawn is made in the preparation. Most of the work happens before a single roll goes down, and it’s what separates a lawn that thrives from one that dries out and lifts at the edges.

  1. Site visit and measure-up: we look at your garden, measure the area and talk through what you want. You get a clear quote with no surprises.
  2. Clearing the area: we remove old grass, weeds, stones and debris. If the garden needs a bigger tidy-up first, we can take care of that too.
  3. Levelling and soil preparation: we dig, rake, firm and level the ground, and add topsoil or soil improver where needed so the new turf has something good to root into.
  4. Delivery of fresh turf: turf is best laid soon after it is cut, so we time delivery to match the day we lay it.
  5. Laying and trimming: rolls are laid tightly together in a staggered brick pattern, with no gaps, and trimmed neatly around beds, paths and edges.
  6. Watering and aftercare advice: we give the new lawn its first good soak and leave you with simple instructions for the first few weeks.

The price depends on a few things:

  • The size of your lawn

  • Whether you need topsoil added
  • The quality of turf you choose
  • Access to your garden (for example, whether everything has to be carried through the house)

When Is the Best Time to Lay Turf in Ireland?

One of the great things about turf is that it can be laid for most of the year. Spring and autumn are ideal, as the soil is warm enough for roots to grow and the rain does a lot of the watering for you. Summer works well too, as long as the new lawn is watered regularly. Winter laying is possible when the ground isn’t frozen or waterlogged.

If you’re not sure about timing, get in touch and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a good week to go ahead or better to wait.

Looking After Your New Lawn

Your new turf needs a little attention in the first few weeks. Here’s what to do:

  • Water it well: keep the turf damp, especially in dry or warm weather, so the roots can move down into the soil. Don’t let it dry out at the edges.
  • Stay off it at first: keep foot traffic to a minimum for the first week or two, while the roots take hold.
  • First mow: once the grass has rooted and is growing, usually after 10 to 14 days, cut it on a high setting. Lower the blades gradually on later cuts.
  • Feed it: a lawn feed a few weeks after laying keeps it thick and green.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to lay instant turf?

Most average-sized gardens can be done in a day once the ground is ready. Larger gardens, or ones that need a lot of clearing and levelling, can take longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe in your quote.

Can you lay turf over my existing lawn?

It’s best not to. The old grass and weeds should be removed first so the new turf can make direct contact with the soil and root properly. We take care of this as part of the job.

How soon can we use the lawn?

Light use is usually fine after a week or two, once the turf starts to root. We recommend waiting a few weeks before heavy use like garden parties or kids’ football matches.

Do I need to be at home when you lay the turf?

Not necessarily. As long as we have access to the garden and have agreed the details, we can get on with the work. We’ll always confirm the day with you beforehand.

Is instant turf better than grass seed?

For most gardens, yes. Seed is cheaper per square metre, but turf gives you a usable lawn far sooner and copes better with Irish rain. If you’re on a tight budget, we can talk through both options.

Will you remove the old lawn and rubbish?

Yes. We can clear the old grass, weeds and debris and take it away, so you aren’t left with a pile in the corner of the garden.
